The 3rd seminar of the series that the Lisbon Club is organising in collaboration with the KAICIID - International Dialogue Centre will take place at the University of Minho, in Braga, on March 13th. It will also be a partnership with the CICP - Research Centre in Political Science of the University of Minho.
This session will focus on Kenya, addressing the prevention and resolution of conflicts in this Aftrican country, placing at the centre of the analysis the instrumentalisation of religion to justify violence. Several national and international experts will share their perspectives on the role of inter-religious dialogue in preventing violent extremism and building peace:
- Dr. Mustafa Y. Ali, Executive Director of Arigatou International–Nairobi and the Secretary General of the Global Network of Religions for Children. With PhD, Masters and Bachelors degrees in International Relations, Sociology, Diplomacy, and Information Sciences; Dr. Ali is widely recognised as a scholar, an author, and a thought leader. Deeply committed to building peaceful, just, safe, and secure communities, Dr. Ali has founded, developed, and led many innovative programs and initiatives to prevent, transform, and end conflicts and wars in several communities and countries worldwide.
- Raudhat Sayeeda Saddam, dedicated researcher at the HORN International Institute for Strategic Studies in Nairobi, specialising in international development, politics, community development and conflict resolution. She is the author of several articles and policy summaries that contribute to strategic decision-making in different contexts.
- Sheikh Ibrahim Lethome Asmani, who holds a Masters Degree in Law and Islamic Shariah, a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a post- Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. He is a member of Jamia Mosque Committee, Nairobi, and Legal and Religious Advisor to Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims; he is also Secretary General of the Center for Sustainable Conflict Resolution, Chairman – Global One, Kenya.
- Sandra Fernandes, professor and researcher at the University of Minho, with a PhD in Political Science, specialising in International Relations, from Sciences Po Paris. She is the director of the Center for Research in Political Science (CICP). Her research interests include foreign policy analysis and international security.
- Rui Garrido, Assistant Professor at Portucalense University. He holds a PhD in African Studies from ISCTE and a Master's in Human Rights from the University of Minho. His research focuses on Human Rights on the African continent, converging mainly on the area of activism, the legal dimension in the context of the African Union and the mechanisms of "institutional accountability" on this continent;
- Fernando Jorge Cardoso, full Professor in International Relations at the Autónoma Lisbon University, an expert on African affairs, focusing on geopolitical, geoeconomics issues, as well as development. He holds a PhD with Public Habilitations in Economics. He is also the executive director of the Club of Lisbon.
The session will take place between 2pm and 4pm, in the dst Auditorium (free admission).
